Scotland: The Quest for the World Cup 1950-1994 – A Complete Record

A match-by-match account of every game Scotland have played in the World Cup – including qualifying rounds and finals – from the 1950 to the 1994 competitions. This unique history is an emotive journey through the trials and tribulations of Scotland’s quest for football’s ultimate prize. Clive Leatherdale recaptures the bizarre refusal to participate in the 1950 finals; the 0-7 thrashing by Uruguay in 1954; the cruel elimination, though unbeaten, in 1974. Relive the tension aroused by Archie Gemmill’s thrilling goal against Holland in 1978; the anti-climactic exit against 10-man Uruguay eight years later. The statistical appendices present a goldmine of facts and figures. This book is essential reading for all followers of Scottish football.
