Pigs, a Trial Lawyer’s Story

Overview

Danny Aitkins has lived his life in the shadow of the oak forest and rolling hills of Western Minnesota. Born and raised in the sleepy little town of Detroit Lakes, Danny married his high school sweetheart, obtained a law degree, and went to work for his father in the family firm. Now in his late thirties, Daniel’s litigation skills are well honed. His life appears to be ordered, safe, and predictable until he receives a telephone call from Dean Anderson, a local hog farmer.

Catastrophe has hit the Anderson farm. A way of life is threatened. Aitkins is hired to represent the Anderson family in court against Stevenson’s Sci-Swine, an agricultural behemoth headquartered in Winnipeg, Canada. But there is more than a mere lawsuit on the horizon to test Daniel Aitkins. The widow of Danny’s best friend returns at a time when his spirit is low and his resistance is weak.

Set against the backdrop of the Smokey Hills on the edge of the prairie, this epic tale of love, the law, and choices made will cause readers to contemplate the intricate patterns of their own lives, and to consider how paths taken impact the people they love.
