Dragon & Phoenix: A Jessie Witthun Mystery, Book 2

Five months have passed since Jessie, Charlie and Ed made a dent in Joe Notto’s criminal empire and sent him to prison. And, much to her relief, Jessie hasn’t killed anyone! She and Charlie are enjoying their sleuthing partnership at D.C. Investigations, and Ed and Jessie are full into a steamy sexual relationship, despite her lingering love for Charlie. However, when their friend Mr. Fang hires D.C Investigations to solve the cold case disappearance of his wife, Jessie lands on the radar of the Black Lotus tong, a very dangerous Chinese crime organization in Toronto. Once again, her life is threatened by powerful gangsters, and her sleuthing intersects with Ed’s investigations for the Department of Justice, much to his frustration. A violent war may be brewing between Black Lotus and a new, mysterious tong that is spreading its tentacles from Vancouver into Toronto. As Jessie will soon discover, there’s a stunning link between the case of Fang’s missing wife and these dangerous syndicates. And in the midst of it all, she is hired by Charlie’s fiancée Celeste to protect a shocking secret. The worst part of it is that Jessie knows this secret will devastate Charlie, but she is painfully caught in the middle. With her characteristic humour, determination and nerve, Jessie Witthun is going to get to the bottom of things, just hopefully not by being dangled out a fifth-floor window!
