Deep Fake

“Easy money,” thought Honolulu private investigator Rick Bishop as he accepted a new client’s request to hold on to a package of documentary evidence for a local mobster’s upcoming trial for a few days. But when a gun-wielding associate of the gangster shows up at Rick’s office demanding the package, things quickly take a dangerous and painful turn.

Despite taking a beating, Rick manages to keep the evidence hidden. But he knows he can’t hold on to it for long. He decides to return the package to his client along with the generous retainer, even though he desperately needs the money. But during the hand off, Rick gets ambushed again, his client gets killed, and the evidence disappears.

With the fat retainer still in his pocket, Rick feels obligated to find his client’s killer and retrieve the evidence. But as he delves deeper into the case, Rick suspects his client set him up and played him for a fool. Now, he’s caught in the crosshairs of the vengeful mobster and his dangerous associates. As he unravels the truth, Rick realizes he may be just a pawn in a much larger game, the victim of a deep fake.
