Coffee Break with the Authors #1

Goggas, a South Korea based publisher, is publishing The Weight of a Picture and House of Delusion. The two comic book artist, Hwang Biori and Goo Hyunseong talk about their works, arts, and the books.

From the book,

“Two different stories start from the front and the back, then meet in the middle of the book. It is how we all meet people, whether it develops into romance, friendship, or something else. There’s magic about how we get to know other people. The physical characteristic of the book is representing this.” – Page 9, A Comic Book is My Language, Artist Hwang Biori

“An unknown sound appears on page 13 on the English edition. The editor asked and Biori told her that it is the sound of something falling off in the girl’s heart. As Biori said it, the editor remembered when she had to put her cat to sleep and the proofreader imagined the pain of losing his cat. Both of their hearts fell apart and made that sound.” – Page 12, A Comic Book is My Language, Artist Hwang Biori

“When I started to get into horror comics and shocked by Kazuo Umezu’s works. He is the master of Japanese horror comics. His uncanny stories and style impressed many readers and artists. His comics are beyond simple horror. The combination of the peculiar ideas, perspectives, and his unique style creates a synergy effect. I am a big fan of Kazuo Umezu and love his works.” – Page 26, Boundaries Between Horror and Anxiety, Artist Goo Hyunseong
