Assessing OT Installation to IEC 62443 Made Simple

A practical guide to assessing OT systems using IEC 62443 — written for real industrial professionals, not cybersecurity theorists.

Industrial control systems are becoming increasingly connected, complex, and vulnerable to cyber risk. Yet most people working in OT don’t have the time (or the patience) to decode dense cybersecurity standards. This book changes that.

Assessing OT Installation to IEC 62443 Made Simple offers a clear and straightforward walkthrough of how to apply IEC 62443 concepts in real-world plants, factories, utilities, and industrial sites. No jargon. No abstract theory. Just practical steps you can apply immediately.

What you’ll learn

• How OT differs from IT — and why typical IT practices don’t work in industrial environments
• How to perform plant walkdowns, interviews, asset inventories, and network mapping
• How to identify zones and conduits without overcomplicating the model
• How to validate controls using IEC 62443-3-3
• How to find gaps quickly and prioritise remediation
• How to build a roadmap for compliance
• How to communicate findings clearly to operations, engineering, and leadership
• Includes templates, worksheets, diagrams, and a real-world case study

Who this book is for

• OT engineers and technicians
• Automation and controls professionals
• Industrial cyber teams
• System integrators
• 62443 assessors and auditors
• Plant managers and operations leaders
• Anyone entering the OT cybersecurity field

Why this book matters
